The Fraser fir is a pyramid-shaped tree – a popular Christmas tree choice due to its fragrance, shape, strong limbs, soft needles, and ability to retain needles for a long time after being cut. The tree is a native of the southern Appalachians and represents over 94% of all the trees grown as Christmas trees. It takes from seven to ten years to mature as a 6-8 foot tree. The Fraser fir is the traditional White House Christmas tree.
